NYS Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship Program The Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship is New York State Funded. All applicants must be in an approved program that leads to licensure in a profession designated by the New York State Commissioner of Education. The following programs and designated degree levels are: Acupuncture, Architecture, Audiology, Landscape Architecture, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology all Master's level. Chiropractic, Law, Optometry, Podiatry, Psychology and Veterinary Medicine all Doctor's level. Eligibility: 1) Applicants must attend or plan to attend a New York State- approved postsecondary institution, and enroll in one of the designated licensure-qualifying programs during 2001-2002. 2) Applicants must be: a) economically disadvantaged and a member of a minority group, or b) a member of a minority group historically underrepresented in the licensed professions, or c) a student who is enrolled in or is a graduate of one of the State-sponsored opportunity programs. 3) All candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for one year prior to the beginning of the academic year (July 1, 1997). Service Agreement: Scholarship recipients must agree to practice in New York State in the profession for which they received their award, at a rate of 12 months for each annual payment received. "Practice" means full-time employment. Period: The award period begins on July 1, 2001 and ends on June 30, 2002. Amount: Scholarship winners will receive from $1,000 to $5,000 a year for up to four years for educational expenses. Deadline: Applications must be postmarked by May 1, 2001.
