US Office of Personnel Management--Presidential Management Intern Program The Program has been a vital point of entry for many outstanding graduate students who have demonstrated a commitment to a career in analysis and management of public policies and programs. PMI assignments may involve domestic or international issues, technological change, criminal justice, health research, financial management, and many other fields in support of public service programs. Eligibility: Students who complete or expect to complete an advanced degree from an accredited college or university during the 1997-1998 academic year are eligible to be nominated by their schools. Nominations must be from a dean, chairperson, or program director of the student's graduate program. Nominations from individual professors, advisors, or placement counselors will not be accepted. Non-citizens may be eligible for employment if permitted by a Federal agency's appropriation act and if they are eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws. Period: PMI's receive an initial two-year appointment. Salary: PMI's are appointed at the GS-9 level (currently $31,000 range per year) and are eligible for various employment benefits. Upon completion of the two-year internship, PMI's are eligible for conversion to career or career-conditional status and are eligible for promotion to GS-12 (currently $44,000 range per year).
