University of Notre Dame--Erskine A. Peters Dissertation Year Fellowship The Provost and the African and African-American Studies Program at the University of Notre Dame invite applications from African-American doctoral candidates in the humanities, social sciences, and theological disciplines for the Erskine A. Peters Dissertation Year Fellowship. Dr Erskine A. Peters (1948-1998), professor of English and senior advisor to the African and African-American Studies program at Notre Dame, was legendary for his commitment to scholarship, community service, and graduate education. Eligibility: Applicants should have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. degree except the dissertation. Fellows are expected to be in residence at the University and to devote most of their time to dissertation research. In addition, they will be expected to present a public lecture dealing with their current research at the end of the spring term to sponsor a short term mutual learning event for faculty and students (e.g. brown bag series, roundtable discussion, etc.). Period: The fellowship is tenable for a full academic year beginning in August 2001 and concluding May 2002. Award: The fellowship offers a $25,000 stipend, access to office space and a personal computer, and a travel and research budget of $1,000.
