NYU/International Center for Advanced Studies--Dissertation Fellowships The Project on the Cold War as Global Conflict, an activity of the International Center for Advanced Studies at New York University, announces a competition for up to four Dissertation Fellowships at the Center. The Project on the Cold War as Global Conflict is intended to create an international community of scholars devoted to the interdisciplinary study of the Cold War, the world it was created by and the world it created. The work of the Project has been organized into a series of annual themes. * War and Peace: 1945-2000 (2001-2002) * Everyday Life, Knowledge, Culture (2002-2003) * History, Governance, Alternatives (2003-2004) Eligibility: Competition is open to NYU doctoral students ONLY. Applications from candidates in all fields of the humanities and social sciences will be considered. Dissertation fellows may not hold any other fellowship or employment concurrent with this fellowship. Stipend: The period of appointment will be one academic year. The stipend for the academic year will be $13,000, and the Fellow will be provided with office space and a computer in the Center and access to reasonable telephone, photocopying, and administrative assistance. Fellows are expected to be in residence (unless they are away on a research trip) and to participate fully in the Center seminar series and other activities of the Center. Deadline: 2001-2002 Fellowship applications are due December 1, 2000. The application for the Dissertation Fellowship consists of: 1. A completed application form. 2. A completed up to date curriculum vitae. 3. A three to five page description of the dissertation project, including its particular relevance to the international and comparative context of the Center and/or the annual theme. 4. (optional) A sample chapter of the dissertation. 5. Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the dissertation advisor. These letters should be sent directly to the Center by the recommenders. Please contact the Center for further details.
