Newberry Library-President Francesco Cossiga Fellowship The Newberry Library is an independent research library, free and open to the public, located on the north side of the city of Chicago. Founded in 1887, its holdings today number more than one and one-half million volumes and five million manuscripts in the humanities. The Newberry's collections concern the civilizations of western Europe and the Americas from the late middle ages to the early twentieth century. Areas of interests would include: American history and literature, discovery of the New World, the American West, local history, genealogy, family and social history, literature and history of the Midwest, especially the Chicago Renaissance, Native American history and literature. European history and literature: the Renaissance, the French Revolution, Portuguese and Luso-Brazilian history. History of cartography, history and theory of music, history of printing, linguistics. President Francesco Cossiga Fellowship: For research in any field appropriate to the Newberry's collections, especially the historical study of cartography. Eligibility: Italian nationals or residents holding the dottorato di recerca or its equivalent. Tenure of fellowship: Two months.
