Morris K. Udall--Dissertation Fellowship The Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy Program was designed to honor congressman Morris K. Udall. Under the enabling legislation, the Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy foundation is authorized to award scholarships to undergraduate students, and dissertation fellowships to doctoral candidates whose dissertation is in the area of environmental public policy and conflict resolution. Dissertation Fellowships: for the writing of the dissertation. The fellowship is to offset a scholar's living expenses while he or she completes the dissertation. The fellowship must be used for the final year of writing the dissertation. It is anticipated that the the doctoral degree will be received at the end of the fellowship year. Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must have completed all course-work, passed all preliminary exams, and had the dissertation research proposal or plan approved by January 15. Students already holding a fellowship for the purpose of writing the dissertation the year before the fellowship year are not eligible. Period: One year. Award: Dissertation fellowships are intended to cover both academic and living expenses. Fellowships carry a stipend of a maximum of $24,000. Awards are not renewable.
