MacArthur Foundation--Fellowships on Peace and International Cooperation The MacArthur Foundation's Program on Peace and International Cooperation encourages exploration of peace and security issues in a changing world. The program fosters new and promising approaches that move beyond existing disciplinary inquiry and professional boundaries. Dissertation and Post-doctoral fellowships are awarded to individuals from a wide variety of professions in an effort to broaden the scope of discussion and to encourage new approaches to the study of peace and security. Work that targets the policy-making community or the general public is encouraged. Eligibility: The program is open to individuals and two-person teams, of any country and of any nationality, who have a proven ability to do creative work. Dissertation Fellowships: For researchers finishing requirements for a Ph.D. or equivalent. All requirements for a Ph.D., except the dissertation must be completed by June 1, 1998. An annual stipend of $17,500 is awarded. Post-doctoral Fellowships: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or its equivalent. Ph.D. not required for lawyers, public servants, journalists, or others who can demonstrate comparable research experience and an ability to contribute to the research literature. For researchers in the first ten years of their postdoctoral careers. Applicants must have received their Ph.D. by March 1, 1998. An annual stipend of $37,500 is awarded. Period: 1 year. Students who wish to conduct research abroad may request additional support for 6 months to a year. Deadline: Applications must be received by November 14, 1997.
