The American Lung Association--Lung Health Research Dissertation Grant The objective of the award is to provide fellowship support for doctoral research training to individuals who will conduct dissertation research on issues relevant to people with lung disease. These fellowships are intended for students from various disciplines of the behavioral and social sciences who have an academic career focus. These include psychology, nursing, sociology, epidemiology, health economics, biostatistics, health policy, health care administration, and public health. Nurses in any field who are interested in lung disease may also apply. Eligibility: At the time of application, applicants must be U.S. citizens, Canadian citizen, or permanent resident of the United States enrolled in a U.S. institution. Noncitizens must be submit a notarized statement as proof of permanent resident status. At the time of application, the applicant must be a matriculating student in good standing in a full-time academic program leading to a doctoral degree in one of the above-mentioned fields. Individuals with an MD degree who wish to acquire a Ph.D. are not eligible. Generally, individuals conducting laboratory research that does not involve patients or patient data are not eligible. However, nurses pursuing a doctoral degree in any field are eligible. Period: Grants are for up to two years, subject annual reviews. The second year of funding is based on demonstration of satisfactory progress and the availability of funds. Stipend: Awards may be for up to $21,000 per year and may cover stipends and research support but generally not equipment.
