U.S. Department of Education--Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program The Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program is designed to assist students of superior ability to pursue graduate programs leading to the doctorate or the Master of Fine Arts in selected fields in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Fellowships cannot be used at schools or departments of divinity, or for study in clinical psychology or social work. Eligibility: Eligibility is limited to individuals who at the time of application have not yet completed their first year of graduate study (for the purposes of this program, 'graduate study' refers to any post-undergraduate study) or will be entering graduate school in the next academic year. Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens or nationals, permanent residents of the U.S., or citizens of any one of the Freely Associated States. Period: The initial period is for one year and is renewable for a maximum of four years. Support beyond the initial year is contingent upon the student making satisfactory progress toward the degree. Award: The award consists of two parts: a stipend to the Fellow for personal expenses, and an institutional payment to be accepted by the institution on behalf of the Fellow in lieu of all tuition and fees normally charged to the student.
