Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Postdoctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers The aim of this program is to assist promising and highly qualified young foreign researchers wishing to conduct research in Japan. The program is aimed at providing opportunities for such research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions, thereby permitting them to advance their own research while stimulating Japanese academic circles. All fields within the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering and medicine are included. Eligibility: Applicants must be a citizen of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan. In addition, they must hold a doctorate degree within six years of April 1 of the fiscal year in which the fellowship commences. Applicants must have arranged, in advance, his/her research plans with a Japanese host researcher. Also, the host must submit an application to JSPS on behalf of the Fellow. Period: Fellowships are awarded for a period of 24 months. However, shorter fellowship tenures of at least 12 months are possible. Amount: round-trip air fare and living expenses. Deadline: Applications, made through Japanese host scientists, are accepted in September-October of each year. Applications are received in April-May and in September-October of each year.
