International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX)-- Research Grants Individual Advanced Research Opportunities: for predoctoral and postdoctoral scholars in all disciplines, with emphasis on the humanities and social sciences, who wish to do research at institutions in Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, and Mongolia. Researchers interested in Mongolia must be in the humanities or social science discipline. Eligibility: Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. Usually applicants are required to have full-time affiliation with a college or university, and be faculty members or doctoral candidates who will have completed all requirements for the PhD except the dissertation by the time of participation. Independent scholars or recipients of professional degrees (MLS, MFA) may also qualify. Applicants should have a mastery of the language of the host country sufficient for the purposes of study and research but they may apply for an On-Site Language Training Grant if their research requires. In that case, applicant must also apply for a Department of Education Fulbright-Hays grant. Period: Two to twelve months. Mongolia visits may not exceed four months. Amount: Round-trip airfare and visa fees, a dollar stipend, room and board, research allowance and an excess baggage allowance. Provisions may vary slightly by country. Deadline: November 1, 2000 for participation beginning September 2001.
