International Research and Exchanges Board--Collaborative Projects

Special Projects: for graduate students and scholars in the 
     humanities and social sciences to collaborate with
     colleagues from countries in Central and Eastern Europe,
     Eurasia, and Mongolia, including the former German
     Democratic Republic. 

Eligibility: must be US citizen and affiliated with a university
     or research institution. The grant is not for individual
     research. All projects must involve Americans and foreign
     participants from the above regions. Projects in the former
     GDR are limited to topics that address its Communist
     experience or extend into the period of unificiation.

Stipend: normally does not exceed $25,000 to cover travel,
     accomodations, per diem, fees and expenses related to
     publication or presentation of research results.

Deadline: contact IREX after November 1 and present proposals by
     March 1 (annually).
