Harvard Academy for International And Area Studies (formerly Kukin) Grants: for those pursuing an academic career involving both a social science discipline and a particular area of the world and show promise of becoming leading scholars at major universities. Eligibility: open to both doctoral candidates and recent recipients of these degrees who already hold teaching or research positions. Those who still are candidates for advanced degrees should have completed all course work and examinations by the beginning of the academic year for which they seek support. Applicants may be of any nationality. Foreign language proficiency is important. Amount: Pre-doctoral scholars will receive an annual stipend between $22,000 and $25,000. Postdoctoral scholars will receive an annual stipend between $32,000 and $35,000. This stipend is supplemented by funding for conference and research travel, and some health insurance coverage.
