Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program The purpose of the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program is to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the peoples of other countries through educational exchange. The Program provides opportunities for qualified educators to participate in direct exchanges of positions with colleagues from other countries for six weeks, a semester, or a full academic year. Eligibility: Elementary and secondary school, two-year college teachers and school administrators at these levels are eligible to apply for positions abroad. However, not all categories of applicants are eligible for all countries. To be eligible for the program, an applicant must meet all of the following seven requirements: 1) be a U.S. citizen; 2) be fluent in English; 3) hold at least a Bachelor's degree; 4) have a current full-time teaching or administrative assignment in the U.S. or one of its territories; 5) be in at least the third year of full-time teaching or administration (teachers applying just for the seminar need to be only in their second full year); 6) have the approval of their school administration; and 7) not have participated in a Fulbright Teacher Exchange longer than eight weeks in the last two years (there is no required waiting period for teachers who have participated in exchanges of eight weeks or less). Award: Awards will vary from country to country and are described in detail in the brochure. Deadline: Applications submitted by mail for the 2000-2001 academic year must be postmarked by October 15, 1999.
