Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellowships for Minorities The National Research Council administers the Ford Foundation Fellowships for Minorities Program. The Dissertation Fellowships are for applicants studying the behavioral and social sciences, mathematics, engineering sciences, and the humanities with the exception of fine arts and performing arts. Dissertation Fellowships: are intended for PhD or ScD degree candidates who have finished all course work, exams, language requirements and all other departmental and institutional requirements except for the writing and defense of the dissertation by mid-February 2002. Also, applicants must have gained approval of the dissertation proposal/topic. Eligibility: US citizens who are members of the following: Alaskan Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), American Indians, Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanos, Native Pacific Islanders and Puerto Ricans. Period: The tenure of a dissertation fellowship will be no less than 9 months and no more than 12 months, with tenure beginning no earlier than June 1, 2001 and no later than September 1, 2001. Stipend: A stipend of $24,000 is awarded to each fellow. Expenses paid to attend three Conferences of Ford Fellows.
