Epilepsy Foundation of America-Merritt-Putnam Int'l Visiting Prof Program The purpose of the Merritt-Putnam International Visiting Professor Program is to promote the exchange of information and expertise on epilepsy between the United States and foreign countries. The program is a joint endeavor between the Epilepsy Foundation of America and the interested country (or between EFA and an institution within the United States wishing to request a Visiting Professor from another country). At least one party in the exchange - either the visiting professor or the host institution - must be from the United States. Role of the Visiting Professor: The Visiting Professor is assigned to assist the country with its specific problems. In effect, Visiting Professors are expected to be "working partners" in the institution where they are assigned. Responsibility of the Host Country: Interested countries are asked to clearly define their requirements and outline the resources, facilities and trained staff available to take advantage of the services of the Visiting Professor. Additionally, there must be some evidence that the host country and institution(s) are committed to and in a position to take action based on the results of the visit. Period: The usual assignment is from three to six weeks. However, this is negotiable depending upon the situation. Stipend: Only the cost of transportation and other incidental expenses of the Visiting Professor, to and from the host country, are assumed by the EFA. EFA does not make or coordinate arrangements for housing, meals, or local transportation for the Visiting Professor. The host country assumes responsibility for coordinating the local travel arrangements and for living and subsistence costs of the Visiting Professor during the visit. Deadline: There is no specific application deadline. Applications may be submitted at any time during the year.
