University of Edinburgh--Fellowships in the Humanities The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities was established in 1970 by the Faculty of Arts to promote enquiry of the highest standards in the Humanities, broadly conceived. The Visiting Research Fellowships 2001-2003 is designed to offer Fellows an opportunity to pursue research in Edinburgh. Visiting Research Fellowships: for advanced research in archaeology, history of art, classics, linguistics, philosophy, history of science, law, divinity, history, European and oriental languages and literature, English literature, philosophy, Scottish studies, music and the social sciences. All Fellows are allocated a study room within the Institute. Fellows hold one or two seminars during their tenure, and submit a report on their research at the end of their fellowship. Eligibility: Scholars of established reputation, and younger scholars with a doctoral dissertation or equivalent evidence of aptitude for further study. Period: Between two and six months. Stipend: Most fellowships are honorary, but limited support towards expenses is available to a small number of candidates. It is expected that Fellows will be in residence throughout the tenure of their fellowship. The Institute will be pleased to help with finding suitable accommodation in Edinburgh.
