The Center on Crime, Communities & Culture--Fellowships The Center on Crime, Communities & Culture of the Open Society Institute seeks to create a better understanding of and support for effective and humane responses to crime in order to enhance the safety of all communities. Crime & Communities Media Fellowships will fund journalists to cover stories on crime, violence, and the search for just and and practical solutions to issues of public safety. Fellows will be funded at an average of $50,000 for six months to a year and will be expected to deliver publishable articles or broadcast-ready pieces. Senior Soros Justice Fellowships are awarded to experienced professionals in criminal justice or related fields to work independently on research, program design, or community development projects related to crime and public safety. Senior Fellowships are awarded for 12 months and may be renewed for an additional 12 months. The Center expects to award up to five Senior Fellowships in 2000. Support for Senior Fellows will vary according to the scope of the project, with a range of $40,000-$70,000 for up to one year of work. Postgraduate Soros Justice Fellowships support people at the outset of their career in law, medicine, or other professions, to develop innovative and effective criminal justice projects.
