The Brookings Institution--Research Fellowships in Governmental Studies The Fellowships are designed for doctoral candidates whose dissertation topics are directly related to public policy issues and thus to the major interests of the institution. Fellowships will be awarded to scholars whose research will benefit from access to the data, opportunities for interviewing, and consultation with senior staff members afforded by the Brookings Institution and by residence in Washington, DC. Eligibility: A graduate department must nominate candidates, who should have completed the preliminary exams for the doctorate no later than February 15, 2000; sponsorship by an individual faculty member cannot substitute for the formal designation of the department. Period: Fellows will be expected to pursue their research on or about September 1, 2000 through August 31, 2001. Stipend: The fellowships carry a stipend of $17,500, payable on a twelve-month basis, for eleven months of research in residence at Brookings and one month of vacation. The institution will also provide supplementary assistance in an amount not to exceed $600, reimbursement for transportation up to $500 for research-related travel, plus some access to computer facilities. Deadlines: Nominations must be received by December 15, 1999 and completed applications must be submitted by February 15, 2000.
