The Robert Bosch Foundation--2001-2002 Work/Study Fellowship Program The Robert Bosch Foundation annually sponsors an intensive work/study fellowship program in Germany. The goal of the program is to strengthen the ties of friendship and understanding between the United States and the Federal Republic of Germany. The fellowship program enables outstanding young American professionals to acquire a quality, in-depth understanding of the political, economic, and cultural environment of Europe and especially Germany. Internships: The Fellows will be offered internships in such key German institutions as the Federal Government, the Federal Parliament and headquarters of private corporations, mass media and other agencies related to government or commerce. The Foundation will make every reasonable effort to secure positions for the Fellows that are related to their professional goals. The Program consists of two work phases and three seminars. The first work phase is in the public sector and the second is in the private sector. The three seminars: a four-week introductory seminar in Bonn in conjunction with a special German language course, a two-week seminar in Berlin and Brandenburg and a two-week seminar in Paris and Brussels will be held over the nine-month period. Eligible: Applicants must be U.S. citizens who have a graduate degree and professional experience or equivalent professional experience in business administration, economics, public affairs/public policy, political science, law, journalism or mass communications. Knowledge of German is strongly recommended, but not required. Period: The fellowship year lasts nine months, beginning in September and ending in May of the following year. The first work phase runs from October-December and the second, from January-May. Amount: Round-trip transportation (between U.S. points only) for candidates invited for interviews. All program related travel costs, including round-trip air transportation between their U.S. residence and Germany and fees for language training. Also, Fellows will receive DM 3,500 per month to cover expenses incurred for food and lodging and limited health and accident insurance during the nine-month Fellowship Program.
