The American Academy in Berlin--Berlin Prize Fellowships The Berlin Prize Fellowships are for advanced study in the arts, culture and public affairs. The Academy is a new institute for advanced study. It will occupy a 40-room villa, the Hans Arnhold Center in the Wannsee section of Berlin, beginning in 1998. The Academy invites applications from American scholars and professionals in academic disciplines or fields of practice including the arts, and culture, architecture, history, philosophy, public policy, law and society, music, journalism, film and others who will benefit from a residential fellowship in Berlin. Most Fellows will have a concurrent association with a Berlin institution such as a museum, library, archive, university, film studio, media organization or others. Eligibility: Applicants must be university faculty members and practicing professionals with a record of achievement, whether at early, mid-career or senior levels. Period: 1998-1999 academic year. Appointments are for one or two semesters. Stipend: Benefits include a monthly stipend, travel reimbursement, travel allowance, housing at a villa, meals and other benefits. Deadline: February 1, 1998. Applicants or those nominating others should prepare: (a) a brief statement of the project or activity they propose, (b) a suggested concurrent institutional affiliation in Berlin, (c) a curriculum vita, and (d) the names of three references.
