Amherst College--Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a grant to Amherst College to support exceptionally promising young scholars-teachers for two years of half-time teaching (one course each semester) and half-time research. Amherst's first Mellon Fellow will be appointed in the Department of Classics; others will be appointed in other departments in coming years. The Department of Classics seeks candidates to teach courses in Greek and Latin language and literature, and a course in either Greek or Roman literature in translation, history or archaeology. Eligibility: Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate and interdisciplinary teaching in a liberal arts context, and a well-articulated plan for research. Candidates must have received the Ph.D. after September 1993; all requirements for the doctoral degree must have been completed before June 1, 1998. Period: Two years Stipend: To be arranged.
