American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers   

The Deems Taylor Awards: for authors and journalists whose books
     and articles on the subject of music are selected for their
     excellence. 
     
Eligibility: Any form of nonfiction prose about music and/or its
     creators - not an instructional textbook, how-to-guide, or a 
     work of fiction. Paperbacks that were originally publishes in
     hardcover are not eligible. Program notes and recording liner 
     notes are eligible. All written works must be published in 
     the U.S. in English. 

Prizes:  Two categories of cash prizes: $500 for best book and 
     $250 for the best newspaper, journal or magazine article.

Deadline: Between January 31 and April 30, 2000, for articles
     published the preceding calendar year.
