American School of Classical Studies at Athens Admissions and Fellowships for Advanced Study in Greece Regular Membership: is granted to graduate students in Classical Studies (literature, archaeology, history) in the US or Canada who have taken at least one year of graduate course work, but have not completed a Ph.D. Stipends are $8,840 plus fees, room and board. Deadline: January 7, 2000. Student Associate Membership: is granted to graduate students outside the area of Classics (e.g. anthropology, history of art) and to graduate students in Classics who have passed their qualifying exams for the Ph.D. Deadline: TBA. Jacob Hirsch Fellowship: is awarded to students in the US or Israel who are writing a dissertation in archaeology or a recent Ph.D. completing a project, such as a dissertation for publication that requires substantial research in Greece. A stipend of $8,840, plus room and board is available. Deadline: January 7, 2000. Samuel H. Kress Joint Athens-Jerusalem Fellowship: for research at the ASCSA and W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research, Jerusalem. Awarded to a Ph.D. candidate in art history, architecture, archaeology, or classical studies. Stipend for $5,500, plus fees, room and board. Deadline: Mid-November. Alison M. Frantz Fellowship in Post-Classical Studies at the Gennadius Library: Awarded to a Ph.D. candidate or a recent Ph.D. from a US or Canadian institution. A stipend of $8,840, plus room and board is available. Deadline: January 7, 2000. NEH Fellowship in Classical and Byzantine Studies: Awarded to post-doctoral scholars from assistant to full professor, who are US citizens or current US residents. Maximum stipend of $30,000, Deadline: Mid-November. Summer Sessions: Two six-week sessions designed to provide an emphasis on the topography and antiquities of Greece. Summer sessions are open to undergraduate and graduate students and to H.S. and college teachers.
