American Scandinavian Foundation--Grants/Fellowships for Advanced Research The American Scandinavian Foundation's goal is to promote international understanding through educational and cultural exchange with Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Through its Grants and Fellowships for Advanced Study or Research program, ASF encourages lasting academic, professional and personal ties between the U.S. and Scandinavia. The grants and fellowships are open to all fields of study. Eligibility: US citizens and permanent residents may apply. Applicants must have completed their undergraduate degree by the start of their projects. A well-defined research or study project that makes stay in Scandinavia essential, is required by all applicants. All candidates must have at least some ability in the language of the host country, even if it isn't essential for the execution of the research plan. Applicants must arrange their academic or professional affiliations in Scandinavia as far in advance as possible. Period: Up to one year. Between Summer 2000 and Summer 2001. Stipend: Awards range from Grants (normally $3,000) to Fellowships (up to $18,000). The awards support project-related costs, including maintenance, round-trip air travel, in country travel, tuition and fees and materials expenditures. Awardees are encouraged to acquire supplemental support from other sources.
