American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT)--Predoctoral Fellowship American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT)/Kress-ARIT Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in the History of Art and Archaeology 2001-2002 ARIT maintains two research centers in Turkey. Both centers offer library and residential facilities and provide general assistance as well as introductions to colleagues, institutions, and authorities in Turkey. The focus of the library at ARIT-Istanbul comprises Byzantine, Ottoman, and modern studies of Turkey. The ARIT-Ankara library concentrates on art, archaeology and ancient studies. Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in the History of Art and Archaeology: Applicants should be engaged in advanced dissertation research that necessitates a period of study in Turkey. Eligibility: Candidacy is open to US citizens and matriculated students at a US university. Applicants should be engaged in advanced dissertation research that necessitates a period of study in Turkey. Turkish law requires all foreign scholars, prior to entering the country, to obtain formal permission for any research to be carried out in Turkey. Period: 2001-2002 academic year Stipend: The maximum award will be $15,000 for a tenure of one academic year. Awards for shorter periods are also possible.
