American Research Center in Egypt Fellowship The goal of the Fellowship Program is to promote a fresh and more profound knowledge of Egypt and the Near East through scholarly research and to aid in the training of American specialists in Middle Eastern studies in academic disciplines that require familiarity with Egypt. Doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships: in archaeology, architecture, art, development, Egyptology, history, humanities, Islamic Studies, and social sciences. Eligibility: Predoctoral candidates must have finished all requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation by the time of the anticipated beginning of their fellowship. Postdoctoral fellowships are available to U.S. citizens and foreign-born citizens who have U.S. residency and have held a a teaching position at an American university for a minimum of three years. Period: The ARCE Fellowships are given for periods of between 3 and 12 months (depending on the source of funding). Fellowships run from October 1st through September 30th. Stipends: Fellows receive one round-trip ticket between the U.S. and Cairo (dependents are not granted travel). Fellowship stipends are administered on a monthly basis and are payable in a combination of Egyptian pounds and U.S. dollars, as is mutually convenient. Deadline: applications, transcripts and letters of recommendation must be received by October 1 (annually).
