American Institute of Indian Studies - Senior Research Fellowships The American Institute of Indian Studies is a cooperative, non-profit organization of forty-eight American colleges and universities that supports the advancement of knowledge and understanding of India, its people, and culture. Senior Research Fellowships * Available to scholars who hold the Ph.D. or its equivalent and are U.S. citizens or resident aliens teaching full-time at U.S. colleges and universities. The fellowships are designed to enable scholars specializing in South Asian studies to pursue further research in India. Senior Fellows establish formal affiliation with an Indian institution. Period: Short-term awards are available for up to four months. Long-term awards are available for six to nine months. Fellowships for four months or less have significant travel restrictions. Awards: A stipend of approximately $1,000 per month, research expenses of $400 (both paid in Indian rupees), round-trip air travel and dependent allowance (for residence in India of more than six months) are provided. A 15 percent cost-of-living increase for scholars living in large cities is also available. Deadline: July 1 (annually).
