American Council of Learned Societies--Fellowships Junior and Senior Fellowships: for recent recipients of a PhD in all disciplines of the humanities and social sciences, although research proposals in the social sciences that are primarily quantitative, clinical, or based on laboratory or case study, are not encompassed. Proposals that focus on a geographic region or a cultural/linguistic group, as well as interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged. Social or natural science proposals must have a humanistic approach. Fellowships are available to scholars at all stages of their careers, both institutionally-affiliated and independent and scholars, both tenured and not tenured, whose teaching load restricts time for research. Period: Six to twelve months. Tenure of the grant may begin between July 1, 2000 and February 1, 2001. Amount: Up to $25,000 for Junior Fellowships and a maximum of $40,000 for Senior Fellowships. It is intended as a salary replacement to help scholars devote six to twelve continuous months of full-time research and writing.
