AAAS--EPA and USDA Risk Assessment Science & Engineering Fellowships The fellowships are designed to provide an opportunity to learn first-hand how scientific and technological information is used in science policymaking for human and environmental health at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Broad areas of research interest within EPA include: environmental socioeconomic concerns; hazardous air pollutants; human and environmental risk assessment; global environmental hazards; pesticides, and innovative technologies such as green technologies. Broad areas of research within USDA include human and environmental risk assessment to promote human and environmental health, including the sustainability of farming through good conservation practices. The USDA is particularly interested in risk assessment for organisms which replicate and thereby threaten human health or the environment, including environmental biostressors and foodborne pathogens. Risk Assessment Science & Engineering Fellowships: The program is designed for Fellows to serve for one-year at the EPA or the USDA, in Washington, D.C., as special research consultants, assessing the significance of environmental and/or human health problems through application of risk assessment. At the EPA, Fellows will work in the National Center for Environmental Assessment, in the Office of Research and Development, on risk assessment research, methods, and guidelines. Fellows will perform health and ecological assessments, develop risk assessment information and training and help set research priorities based on risk. Eligibility: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral level degree at the time of application. Person's with a master's degree in engineering and at least three years post-degree experience may also apply. All applicants must be U.S. citizens.
