University of Albany--Fellowship on Women and Public Policy Program The Fellowship on Women and Public Policy is a unique opportunity for graduate students who want to help improve the status of women. The program was created to address the under representation of women in the public policy process. It places talented graduate students in policy-making offices to enhance New York State's capacity to be more sensitive to the needs of women, children, and families. Fellowship Activities: Fellows are assigned as staff to a legislator, nonprofit organization, or a state agency for 30 hours each week. For approximately 15 hours per month, Fellows work in one of the Center programs on special collaborative projects. These could include research, organizing public policy forums, contributing to the leadership development of young women in high school, or other Center programs. Lastly, Fellows are required to complete three seminars (12 credits) designed to complement their placements while providing a comprehensive perspective on policy making and its impact on women and families. Eligibility: The fellowship is open to female graduate students from all academic disciplines who are matriculated in colleges and universities in New York State. Applicants must have completed 12 hours of graduate work by May 1998, with a degree completion scheduled for May 1999 or after and have demonstrated an interest in improving status of women through their studies, research, paid employment or voluntary activities.
