Beauty Cake is a compact foundation designed to be mixed with water and applied with a sponge. Still in production today, this version, like the compact and lipstick featured in the "Let the Sun Love Us" poster, promoted bronze summer colors. As in the case of American cosmetic companies such as Revlon and Estee Lauder, seasonal campaigns became increasingly important for Shiseido. Echoing fashion, makeup was promoted as changing with each season, encouraging product sales to fashion-conscious consumers wanting to keep up to date with the latest color schemes. Beauty Cake, 1969
