Designer and art director Shunsaku Sugiura’s packaging for MG5 employed bold graphics and a geometric black-and-diamond pattern against a silver background. The first hugely successful skincare and cosmetics line for men, MG5 represented a major transition in packaging design as well as marketing. Printed on aluminized paper, the labels utilized the latest industrial techniques. The enormous volume of MG5 products sold sparked a trend toward using standard resin-molded caps.
