Heri Dono, born in 1960 in Jakarta, studied at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in Yogyakarta. His interest in the traditional Indonesian art of wayang puppets led him to installation work. A recipient of numerous awards including the Lempad Prize, Sanggar Dewata, Bali, 1992, he is considered one of the most established installation and performance artists in Indonesia today.
