| Class registration (cont.) Students must earn a specific number of credits to graduate. This number varies for undergraduates and graduates among schools within the university. Graduation requirements are published in the bulletin of your school. The bulletin, or catalog, containing a list of course offerings and school policies and procedures, is a contract between the school and its students. Students are bound by the policies of the bulletin in force during the semester of initial enrollment. All students are required to read their school's bulletin and are expected to understand its contents. Obtain a copy of your bulletin at your school's admissions office or at the NYU Information Center , Shimkin Hall, 50 West 4th Street, (212) 998-4636.
When you meet with your academic advisor
- Make sure s/he is aware that you are an international student and that you have a full-time enrollment requirement.
- If for any reason you are unable to register as a full-time student, you must consult an OISS advisor prior to finalizing your registration.
- Consult your bulletin to learn the required and elective courses for your degree program.
- Consult the schedule of classes prior to the meeting to determine possible classes you would like to take that semester.
- Ask your advisor how you can contact him/her during the semester if you have questions or concerns. Find out what his/her office hours for appointments or "drop ins" will be.
- If you are trying to transfer any credits to NYU from another institution, make sure this is determined at the beginning of your studies so that you can plan a reliable timeframe to complete your degree.
