IMMIGRATION MATTERS

Traveling for Spring Break?
Check your passport, F-1 or J-1 visa, and I-20 or DS-2019 form to make sure all documents are in order for you to travel and return to the U.S.  View the required travel workshop at  www.nyu.edu/oiss/legal/workshops.html.  If you need a travel signature, make sure you have completed the online workshop, then bring your documents to the OISS walk-in hours.  If you are traveling to a third country [not your home country] check to see if you need an entry visa to that country by contacting its consulate.

F-1 Students Applying for Optional Practical Training

The OPT application period has already started.  If you wish to obtain OPT, you are advised to apply as soon as possible.  The government routinely takes 90 days to process such applications, and after April, there may be further delays.  The first step to apply for OPT is to view the applicable employment workshop at www.nyu.edu/oiss/legal/workshops.html.  Workshop attendance is mandatory in order to apply for OPT. If you have questions, write them down and come to the OISS during walk-in hours for information and to submit your application.
