Exercise
The importance of exercise to good health cannot be overstated. American Heart Association guidelines recommend that individuals participate in at least three half-hour aerobic exercise sessions weekly.
The benefits of exercise include weight maintenance, increased immunity to illness and an overall sense of well-being. Although it may seem that the urban setting of the university offers few day-to-day opportunities for exercise, the Coles Sports and Recreation Center (181 Mercer Street) the Palladium Sports Center (140 E 14th Street) and the Chelsea Piers (23rd Street and the Hudson River, (212) 333-6666) provide excellent, convenient facilities for exercising and working out. If you are a full-time student you have access to Coles and Palladium without extra charge.
The facilities at Coles Sports and Recreation Center include an outdoor track, indoor pools and racquetball courts, weight room and rock climbing wall. In addition, several classes are offered throughout the year to help build a healthy exercise regimen.
The Palladium Athletic Facility is equipped with weight room coupled with the FitLinxx system, basketball court, swimming pool, spinning room, lounge, cardio room, and a climbing wall. Take advantage of the facilities NYU has by calling (212) 998-2020 for information and schedules. NYU provides trolley service to Chelsea Piers as well. Learn more |
