Know before you go
Advice for New Students from the OISS Advisory Board
Welcome to NYU from your fellow students! We've found studying in New York City to be a great adventure and are sure you will too. While it's not possible to fully prepare for this experience, we want to help you as much as we can by sharing what we learned and what we wish we had known.
You might be asking, what is the OISS Advisory Board? We are a group of student volunteers who work with the OISS to make life better for NYU's foreign students. We are a bridge between the office and students to express concerns and needs of the foreign students. You'll meet several of us at the International Student Orientation. Be sure to go, it's really helpful and fun!
The Know Before You Go (KBUG) website is one of our efforts to help students. You'll find two main sections, one on packing, which includes what to pack in your check-in luggage, your carry-on bag, and a reminder of things not to pack! The other section is on practical and mental preparation for NYU and NYC. We'd like to know if you found this information helpful and if you have any questions after reading through it. You can reach us at oiss.advisory.board@nyu.edu and can read more about us here .
See you at International Student Orientation!
