Question:

I plan to stay in New York until August and then I will go home to renew my visa. Is one month enough time for the renewal, and if so, what should I bring with me?

Answer:

You will want to check with the U.S embassy in your home country to see how long it takes for visas to be renewed. The time it takes to get a new visa varies from country to country. Summer is typically a busy time for U.S. embassies, so make sure to check on visa wait times in advance and make your visa appointment as close to the start of your visit as possible.

You can find a list of the documents necessary for the visa renewal HERE. If you do not have a signature on page 3 of your I-20 or on page 1 of your DS-2019, you must first watch the online travel workshop (if you have not already attended a travel workshop at the OISS) and then come to the OISS during walk-in hours for a signature.

For any additional questions, you can contact the OISS at intl.students.scholars@nyu.edu or come in to see an advisor during Advisor-On-Duty hours.
