Victim of a crime
We certainly hope that you are never a victim of a crime. The major crime committed at New York University is the theft of wallets, bags, purses, and other personal belongings that are left in unlocked lockers in the Silver Center, Bobst Library, or Coles Sports Center, or left unattended in lounges, classrooms, or Bobst Library. Never leave personal belongings unattended. With this kind of crime, it is unlikely that you would see the perpetrator, but if you do, it is very important that you do your best to recall all details about him or her.
If possible, try to recall things about the person's face and body, as opposed to details about clothing, which can be easily discarded. Jot down notes, because it is easy in periods of stress to forget things. If you are the victim of any kind of assault, including rape, it is important to not wash, which is often the first impulse. Medical personnel can gather important evidence about the perpetrator from your body, so you should go to Urgent Care at the NYU Health Center (726 Broadway, 3rd Floor), to the nearest hospital, or call 911 or NYU Protection Services at (212) 998-2222.
