Dating tips
- Decide beforehand who will pay.
- Always carry money, even if your date is paying for the evening, in case of emergency.
- When starting to date someone, do not let your date take you somewhere with which you're not familiar. Make sure you are going to a public place, not to a place where the two of you will be alone. Always know the address and location of where you are.
- Always make sure someone else knows of your plans when you go out on a date.
- Know how to get home on your own and carry your MetroCard and money for another form of transportation, such as a taxi.
- If at any time you feel uncomfortable, leave. Listen to your intuition. It's okay not to be nice if you feel uncomfortable. Safety is more important than manners!
- Be on time. However, if your date is late, don't let it spoil the evening - remain pleasant.
- Introduce your date to a friend or someone you know.
- Communicate your sexual desires and limits clearly. Verbal cues are the most direct. What you say and how you behave may create conflicting messages. Never give mixed messages, such as saying "no" but laughing as you say it, which may lead someone to think you don't really mean "no."
- Respect your date when he or she says "no" to something. NO means NO!
- Be an active partner in relationships and share decisions about what to do, where to meet and when to be intimate.
