AIDS/HIV
HIV is the virus that can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). There is not yet a cure. NYU is committed to addressing AIDS-related issues and circumstances in a spirit of cooperation, compassion, flexibility, and sensitivity. Confidential HIV testing and counseling is available at the University Health Center . Confidential testing means that your name and test results are recorded, but are kept confidential like other parts of your medical record. For information call (212) 443-1100.
Individuals with AIDS are protected against illegal discrimination by city state, and federal laws. Questions or concerns should be addressed to the Moses Center for Students with Disabilities , (212) 998-4980.
The University Health Center has educational information about AIDS. You are encouraged to make sure you understand how AIDS is transmitted, so you can protect yourself. There are also many organizations in the city dedicated to assisting people who have AIDS. If you would like to get involved to help those affected by AIDS, volunteering your time is as helpful as donating money.
