Brain Imaging Center
The NYU Center for Brain Imaging is a shared facility, dedicated to research and teaching in cognitive neuroscience. The Center opened in October of 2002, making it one of a handful of universities to have research-only MRI facilities on campus. Students are provided with the training and opportunity to become experts in cognitive neuroscience through a combination of course work and hands-on experience.
The Center boasts a world-renowned faculty. David Heeger, professor of neural science and psychology at New York University, and Souheil Inati, assistant professor of neural science and psychology and chief MR Physicist in the NYU Center for Brain Imaging, were one of three teams of scientists in the country to be awarded the prestigious Technological Innovations in Neuroscience Award from the McKnight Endowment for Fund for Neuroscience. The annual award is given to support scientists working on new and unusual approaches to understanding brain function, in order to advance and enlarge the range of technologies available to the neurosciences.
Please contact government.affairs@nyu.edu if you would like to tour the Brain Imaging Center Facilities. The Center is located in room 156 of the Meyer Complex, 4-6 Washington Place (between Broadway and Mercer Street).
Dental Clinic
Each year more than 250,000 patient visits are made to the NYU Dental Clinics are made. NYUCD is the largest provider of comprehensive oral health care in New York State and the nation. Patients are primarily underprivileged and low-income New Yorkers, including many new immigrants and other vulnerable individuals who have no other place to turn for dental care. In addition to providing low-cost, comprehensive dental health services, the NYU College of Dentistry (NYUCD) also provides the nation's strongest and most extensive dental health outreach programs for school children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and the homeless. These programs serve disadvantaged New Yorkers from every borough in New York City and throughout the state. As a result of their success in expanding access to dental care for many thousands of medically-indigent New Yorkers who otherwise would never see a dentist, these programs are widely recognized as national models for community dental care.
NYU Dental Clinics are available to coordinate with elected officials to provide comprehensive dental services to underserved areas. If you are interested in this opportunity, please write to government.affairs@nyu.edu and we can help coordinate this effort.
Health Clinic
The New York City Free Clinic (NYCFC) opened in March 2002 to help serve the healthcare needs of the nearly one in four New Yorkers lacking health insurance. The NYCFC began as a partnership between New York University School of Medicine and the Institute for Urban Family Health that to this day remains committed to providing this much needed care to the uninsured, homeless, and disenfranchised of greater New York.
The NYCFC, New York's only comprehensive free healthcare clinic, believes that high-quality healthcare is the right of all individuals. We provide at no cost to our patients the full range of healthcare services, including specialty referrals, counseling, patient education, social services, and screening and registration for public health insurance.
