The Office of Government and Community Affairs is responsible for reporting all lobbying activities and associated expenses to Federal, State and City government agencies on behalf of the University. OGCA also compiles and reports this information on behalf of the School of Medicine, the Dental Center, and the College of Nursing. In recent years and months, the laws and rules associated with interacting with government officials have become increasingly complex and continue to change. These laws and rules apply to:
- lobbying;
- providing gifts and meals to government officials and elected officials;
- hosting government officials on campus; and
- hosting political candidates on campus.
Due to the complex nature of the legal and regulatory environment and the severe legal consequences for noncompliance, any member of the University community who plans to interact with a government official in the context of University business must first contact OGCA PRIOR to the interaction. Notification will ensure that the process is well-coordinated, simple, and compliant with federal, state and city laws and rules.
