Federal and State laws which govern the University's tax-exempt status set guidelines that the University must follow. The University is prohibited from sponsoring, endorsing, or underwriting events for candidates for any office (presidential, congressional, state, city). There are some exceptions to this rule, but the decisions must be coordinated and approved by the Office of Government and Community Affairs.
Political fundraising is not permitted on any University premises, or by University employees in the course of their official responsibilities.
Q: One of my student groups wants to use university space for a political fundraiser. Since it's a student group, can the use of the space be granted?
A: No. Political fundraising on any University premises is strictly prohibited.
