19th Annual NYU and CB2 Children's Halloween Parade
NYU and Community Board 2 Manhattan are preparing for the 19th Annual Children's Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 31, 2009 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Costumed children ages 3-12 and parents or guardians are invited to line up at the Washington Square Arch at 1:00 P.M. Treats, entertainment, and rides will take place on LaGuardia Place between Washington Square South and West 3rd Street after the parade march until 4:00 P.M. Job Skills Workshops
On September 21st, 23rd, and 25th, OGCA held a free Job Skills Workshop that was open to the public. The 3 part series provided attendees with important information on resume and cover letter writing, tips on how to interview with confidence, and how to develop an effective job search in today’s changing job market. The workshops were led by professional career coaches, Michael Pastena and Bernie Siegel and attended by nearly 200 people. We would like to thank all our co-sponsor who helped make this series a huge success: State Senator Tom Duane, State Senator Daniel L. Squadron, Assemblymember Deborah Glick, Speaker Christine C. Quinn, Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer, Councilmember Rosie Mendez, Councilmember Alan J. Gerson, Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and the Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of commerce. “Park(ing) Day NYC"
On Friday, September 18th, NYU students joined hundreds of other New Yorkers in converting parking spots around the city into engaging public spaces for the day. The third year of Transportation Alternatives’ Park(ing) Day NYC” transformed over 51 parking spots into public spaces, creating conversation about how public space is utilized and sustainability issues. Three spaces at LaGuardia Place and Washington Square South, 6th Avenue and West 4th Street, and Lafayette and Prince Street, were organized by NYU student groups Earth Matters, the Wagner Urban Planning Association, and the Wagner Transportation Alliance, where visitors were greeted with refreshments, a putting green, and a space to relax.


September Informed Neighbor
"Informed Neighbor" meetings are OGCA’s newest interactive forum for keeping our neighbors up-to-date with the latest happenings at NYU. Dan Ferris, Policy Analyst, presented on the new NYU bookstore location that will move to 726 Broadway this spring. Renee Schacht, Executive Director of Open House New York, discussed the exciting events coming up on October 10th and 11th, and NYU's participation in the event. Assistant Director of NYU’s America Reads/America Counts program, Jason Schultz, explained how the program utilizes NYU students to provide free tutoring to New York City public school students. NYU's program is the largest in the nation and the University is incredibly proud of all the great work our students do in the community. The final presenter was Marcia Maxwell, Associate Director of State Relations, who shared information on the 19th Annual Children’s Halloween Parade, which will be on Saturday, October 31st from 1PM-4PM. Memorial for Bob Cohen on 10.15.09
A native of the Bronx, Bob joined NYU's community relations office in 1986 where he served a Director of Community Relations for over 10 years. After retiring, Bob remained an integral member of NYU's Office of Government and Community Affairs team as a community adviser. Bob was well-known in the community for his love of the Village, passion for local politics, and leadership in organizing the annual CB2 and NYU Children's Halloween parade. Please join us on October 15, 2009 at 6:00 PM in Hemmerdinger Hall, Silver Center for Arts and Science (100 Washington Square East) in remembrance of Bob Cohen as we celebrate his many contributions to NYU and the Village. "I Remember Better When I Paint" is the first international documentary about the positive impact of art and other creative therapies on people with Alzheimer's and how these approaches can change the way we look at the disease.
