As Vice President for the Faculty Housing Office and Residential Services, Ms. Sargent works with her staff to design and implement the policies and programs needed to meet NYU’s near and long term housing demands. The office works directly with the Provost, faculty, senior staff, the deans, department chairs and other University constituents on all housing matters. In addition, two key senior administrative committees address housing policy and strategic housing initiatives. The Housing Committee establishes faculty recruitment and retention housing priorities, and communicates and effectuates the decision-making process on housing matters. The Housing Task Force sets and modifies faculty housing policies, as well as provides guidance on long-term strategic initiatives and deployment of University housing stock priorities. The office assigns housing units, sets lease terms, and oversees homeownership programs.

NYU owns and manages a portfolio of 2,100 apartments in large and mid-sized buildings in the Washington Square neighborhood, some 1,700 of which are rented to University affiliates, with the remainder rented to rent-stabilized / rent-controlled tenants. The University is focusing on expanding capacity to meet the growing residential needs of our faculty, including the acquisition of additional units and the conversion of certain existing units into space suitable for families.

Carolyn Sargent came to NYU from Stanford University where she was Director of Faculty Staff Housing for ten years.
