By Richard Pierce
Four filmmakers from NYU were among the winners in this year’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 34th Annual Student Academy Awards® competition. The 2007 winners—11 students in all representing six colleges and universities—were announced this summer at a ceremony at the academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, CA, featuring actress Zooey Deschanel, director John Landis, and Academy President Sid Ganis as presenters.
The NYU filmmakers are from the Kanbar Institute of Film & Television at the Tisch School of the Arts (TSOA) and the Journalism Department in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS). They walked away with one gold medal, two silver medals, and one bronze medal.
The NYU gold medal winner in the animation category was Sarah Wickliffe (TSOA’06) for Art’s Desire. The silver medal winner in the documentary category was Megan Thompson (current GSAS student) for Ladies of the Land. In the narrative category, the silver and bronze medal winners were Phillip Van (TSOA/Kanbar graduate student) for High Maintenance and Anthony Green (TSOA’06) for Screening, respectively.
