Microfinance is arguably at a crossroads. The 2006 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank recognizes and rewards the insight that expanding access to finance can radically reduce poverty.
Access to microcredit (small loans) and savings accounts, Yunus argues, can unlock productive potential, spur investments in small businesses, and ultimately transform lives.
