College of Nursing Dean Terry Fulmer Named to Skidmore College Board of Trustees
Terry Fulmer, the Erline Perkins McGriff Professor and dean of the College of Nursing at NYU, was recently appointed as a trustee of Skidmore College. She joins a 35-member board, which guides the prestigious liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, New York, from which Fulmer received her bachelor’s degree in 1976.
Fulmer was named the first dean of the NYU College of Nursing when the college’s status was elevated from a division in 2005. Under her leadership, the college’s enrollment has dramatically increased and the faculty size has doubled.
A pioneer in geriatric nursing, Fulmer was the first nurse to serve as president of the Gerontological Society of America and was also the first nurse to be elected to the board of the American Geriatrics Society. She is the author or co-author of more than 150 papers and textbooks, and two of her nine books have received American Journal of Nursing book of the year awards. She is responsible for the development of the Elder Assessment Instrument (EAI), a screening checklist for elder abuse that is currently used nationwide.
